ARTISTIC PROJECT

The daughters of the sun

The artistic project wants to illustrate, through handcrafted ethical jewellery, the 6 female figures and daughters of the pharaoh Akhenaten and Nefertiti: Meritaten, Meketaten, Ankhesenamun, Neferneferuaten Tasherit, Neferneferure and Setepenre. Their lives, although brief, were revealed in bas-reliefs carved in stone, and reflected in the golden light of the Nile.

Each jewellery collection is inextricably linked to the specific personality traits of each of the six princesses.

The link between jewellery and the feminine quality is evident in the choice of lines that make up the product, the materials and the colours.

A journey that allows us to rediscover an era, but also some symbolic qualities that are present in each of us, to finally realise which piece of jewellery best expresses who we are and what we want to reveal about ourselves.

EGYPT

Where mysteries never end

If you were to ask someone what the most mysterious places on the planet are, Egypt would be amongst the first to be nominated. Just think of the Giza pyramids, with their perfect geometries, shrouded in mystery. To this day, it is still inexplicable how they could have been built with the tools available at the time.

In this land, in the fourteenth century BC, he became Pharaoh Amenhotep IV, who later became Akhenaten embodying the living spirit of Aten, to honour the Sun, the only God.

Of the six daughters, some symbolic qualities can be deduced from the representations, from their names, some scriptures and from the roles they seem to have played.

MERITATON

She who is loved by Aton
QUALITY:Nobility and responsibility
SYMBOL:It represents the Light of Tradition, the daughter-queen who carries forward the ideal of the father.

Meritaten was the eldest, often depicted next to her parents in a protective attitude towards her younger sisters.
She was probably born in Thebes, perhaps just before or shortly after Akhenaten’s ascension to the throne.

She is the most royal among the sisters, the one who embodies the continuity of power and devotion to the god Aten. She was probably the most politically active and the most present in public life.

NOBILITY AND RESPONSIBILITY

The feminine qualities of Nobility and Responsibility of Princess Meritaten, the eldest of the 6 daughters of Pharaoh Akhenaten, can be seen these jewellery lines, where light becomes a responsible carrier in handing down the canons of noble tradition in a contemporary key.

Here and there you can recognize some traits typical of ancient jewellery, in the setting, in the symmetry, in the balance, enhanced by combinations of materials and unprecedented colours, accompanied by very bright gems that make each artifact unique.

MAKETATON

Protected by Aton
QUALITY:Sensitivity and sweetness
SYMBOL:It is symbolized by the Egyptian lotus flower. Associated with the sun, it opens and closes every day, with delicacy and receptivity.

he second eldest daughter of Akhenaten and Nefertiti was Maketaten. She died, probably unmarried, at the age of about eleven, in the fourteenth year of Akhenaten’s reign.

The scenes at his funeral show a tragic, almost melancholic sweetness. It is the figure of broken youth, of purity that does not survive human frailty.

SENSITIVITY AND SWEETNESS

The feminine qualities of Sensitivity and Sweetness of Princess Maketaten, the second daughter of Pharaoh Akhenaten, are wonderfully expressed in the collection of alternative, eternal and magical pearls of the brightest natural colours. As the pearl is born from the heart of the oyster, so a sensitive and pure personality is formed through the emotions, at times painful. The oyster welcomes and transforms ‘an impurity’, a grain of sand, into something precious, slowly, enclosing it in layers of light and delicacy. In the same way, a sensitive soul transforms its emotions into empathy, sweetness and inner beauty: what comes from the heart becomes a testimony of authentic strength and purity.

ANKHESENPAATON

She who lives for Aton
QUALITY:Strength and Resilience
SYMBOL:The Phoenix of change, Resilient and Transformative.

The most famous of Akhenaten and Nefertiti’s daughters was their third daughter, Ankhesenamun.

She is thought to be the only daughter to have faced the transition between two religious worlds from Aten to Amun, or the return to polytheism and the Egyptian tradition prior to Akhenaten. She showed determination, pragmatism and political ability, surviving the collapse of the Amarna Revolution.

STRENGTH AND RESILIENCE

The personal qualities of Strength and Resilience embodied by Princess Ankhensenamun, the third of the 6 daughters of Pharaoh Akhenaten, can be found in this jewellery, in the strength and versatility of titanium, which sometimes accompanies or replaces ethical gold.

The multiple shades and colours of pearls from all over the world, which allow you to wear the force of nature in all its tones, are also a representation.

The diamond is the only gem that can be introduced in this context of transformative force, adding flashes of light in a strongly portable and alternative collection.

NEFERNEFERUATON TASHERIT

Beauty among the beauties of Aton
QUALITY:Grace and Joy
SYMBOL:The Sun Maiden, Spontaneity and Vitality

Often represented while playing or indulging in spontaneous gestures typical of children. She is the liveliest of the daughters portrayed, a symbol of daily life and light-heartedness in the royal world.

GRACE AND JOY

This is the jewellery of Beauty among the beauties of Aten, Neferneferuaten Tasherit, the perfect among the wonders of the Sun God, the embodiment of the feminine qualities of grace, joy and
beauty.

The historical figure that names this part of the artistic project, so positive and playful, pushed us to create jewellery that bears of a new game of forms, creating an innovative concept of dimensional space in movement.

NEFERNEFERURA

Beautiful are the perfections of Aton
QUALITY:Balance and Harmony
SYMBOL:The Light of Harmony

Her name directly recalls the perfection of the sun disc; we can see her as the one who embodies the aesthetic and spiritual ideal of the harmonious beauty desired by Aton.

Sources suggest that she disappeared relatively early from the recordings, probably dying at a young age, as she does not appear in scenes after the Amarna period.

It is likely that Neferneferure was born around the 8th year of her father’s reign, and died around the 13th or 14th, when a serious epidemic hit Egypt.

HARMONY AND INNER BEAUTY

The qualities of Balance and Harmony represented by Princess Neferneferure, the fifth of the 6 daughters of Pharaoh Akhenaten, can be found in this jewellery collection, in the alternation of pyramids with an innovative ogive section, or with slightly rounded sides to achieve greater harmony and balance. In some cases, the tip becomes a diamond to symbolize the connection with the stars and the light that descends from above.

SETEPENRA

She who is chosen by Ra
QUALITY:Spirituality and mystery
SYMBOL:The Sunrise Star, promise and mystery

She is the smallest and most enigmatic of the six sisters, almost a symbolic presence in the representations. We could read her as the mystical daughter, the ‘chosen’ one in the spiritual sense, the representative of the direct link with the divine.

According to some reconstructions, she may have died before the decoration of the royal tomb of Amarna was even completed, since her name only appears in incomplete lists.

Probably born in the 9th or 10th year of her father’s reign and died around the 13th or 14th year, her short life and scarce presence in the finds make her an embodiment of the unfulfilled potential of the Aten dynasty.

SPIRITUALITY AND MYSTERY

Every single millimetre of these jewellery lines represent the personal qualities of Spirituality and mystery embodied by Princess Setepenre, the last of the 6 daughters of Pharaoh Akhenaten.

This is the collection of portals, where the encounter between spirituality and mystery, between mystical and earthly, between divine and material, is manifested.
